I used to think that VR would be a new medium for the Entertainment Industry. And while this seems to be the case we have already seen how it can be used for Real Estate as well. And much more interesting is the use VR can have in fitness and exercise, Spinning VR is just one example of it!
Why Spinning VR
Lets face it, going to the gym is a drag for most people. I’ve tried it a couple of times and i have found that without a partner I tend to quit.
So if my partner quits, I quit a couple of months later…
It’s just boring, being in the gym stuck to a particular machine for 30 mins then moving on to the next one. If you are there with a friend you can chat but if you are alone it is extremely dull.
However VR can change all that! It is a perfect fit that can turn a dull 30 mins looking at the ceiling to 30 mins looking at some awesome landscapes!
Imagine you are on your stationary bicycle with your headset on. Instead of a dull session you could be cycling through a beautiful countryside, or through beaches.
Replicating Real Experiences On VR
There are thing that could hardly be replicated, take the wind blowing in your face for instance.
However there is plenty that can be replicated to a very high degree. Using apps to track times and distance is a great way to make things easier.
And the social aspects of spinning can be highly improved by Spinning VR apps. Zwift is a perfect example of it, you don’t only get to spin through different locations. You can also choose to compete with people from all over the world.
Spinning VR Apps Give Plenty OF Motivation
Like i said before being in the gym alone can be boring. However being in a tropical island cycling through beaches would be quite fun.
If you add to that the fact that you can race people from other parts of the world, you get a ton of motivation.
I can easily see myself putting that bit of extra effort to win a race. Having someone actually competing with me in real time would make all the difference!
Spinning VR Has No Limitations
Unlike actually going to the gym or actually taking a bicycle ride. Spinning VR has no limiting factors. You don’t rely on the weather holding up, or have to stop training through the winter.
You could have a blizzard going on outside your home, it doesn’t matter! Just step into your VR world and spin through whatever country you want to spin.
Spinning VR Platforms
Zwift is probably the easiest platform to get in to. It works on Android and iOS devices, however is not really a VR experience.
Zwift does not use a VR Headset, just uses our device as a screen, it is however still worth talking about since it’s pretty cheap and therefore has a pretty good population.
